Mangosteen and Diabetes
Type I Diabetes: Otherwise known as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus - A chronic condition in which he pancreas makes little or no insulin because the beta cells have been destroyed. The body is then not able to use the blood sugar for energy.
Type II Diabetes: Otherwise known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. An often mild form of diabetes mellitus of gradual onset, usually in obese individuals over age 35; absolute plasma insulin levels are normal to high, but relatively low in relation to plasma glucose levels. Type II Diabetes responds well to dietary regulation and oral hypoglycemic agents, but diabetic complications and degenerative changes can develop.

Type I Diabetes
I’ve been a type I diabetic for 35 years. I’ve tried everything over the years to guard against the ultimate degenerative results of this disease such as blindness, amputations, kidney failure, stroke, and heart attack. My son urged me to try mangosteen juice during Christmas time 2004. I wanted to show gratitude for his concerns so I tried the juice.
Three nights after taking the mangosteen juice, I awoke during the night with low blood sugar. I thought little of it, as it had happened at times in the past because of a bedtime overdose of insulin. The next night, the same thing happened, and the third night also. It caught my attention, and I cut back on my Lantus insulin about 20 percent. I also noticed my fast-acting Humolog was more sensitive and had to be reduced. I dropped my overall intake about 20 to 25 percent. However the most important result was that my blood sugar was being better controlled. Better controlled blood sugar means longer life and less chance of heart attack, stroke, or any other diabetes-related health problems.
Yesterday, after having drank the juice for about three months, my lab test and the doctor’s visit showed my A1c test (a measure of sugar in the blood stream over a period of 60 to 90 days) was at 6.4 - a miracle in its own right for a type I diabetic. The American Diabetes Association likes to see it below 7.0, but a score that low is difficult to achieve, even for type II diabetics. My latest reading gives me a whole new outlook on life. Thank you God for growing mangosteen fruit on earth.

Type II Diabetes
About three years ago I was diagnosed with type II diabetes. I went to all the classes and checked my blood regularly for about six months, but my daily blood-sugar readings were always in a healthy range, no matter what I ate. So, in my infinite wisdom, I decided that I did not have diabetes - that the doctors must have been wrong. Every time I went into the clinic for an A1c test, my levels continued to go up and up, but I still did not feel like I needed to do anything about my diet or take the pills I was supposed to take. Talk about denial.
When I went to the doctor last week he gave me the results of my most recent A1c test. Keep in mind that my A1c reading had been steadily rising for three years from 6.2 to a high of 7.5. I have done nothing to control it. I have taken no medication. I have not watched my diet. And, in fact, I have gained 14 pounds in the last year. However, to my surprise, my score had dropped to 6.4, and my doctor congratulated me on having better control over the diabetes. I was too ashamed to admit that I had not been taking care of myself and just went along with the praise. Since then I had been trying to figure out what I had been doing differently, and guess what I figured out it was? I had been taking the patented mangosteen juice for six months.

Diabetic Diet
All diabetic diets allow a fruit exchange: all fruits and juices need to be controlled because if used in excess they will raise blood sugar dramatically. The carbohydrate count in mangosteen juice is three grams per ounce - a miniscule amount equal to that found in about one-eighth of an apple. Taking two to three ounces of mangosteen juice per day should not interfere with a diabetic diet.
